Discover How Metal Detect For Treasure During Winter-The Right Way

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By J C Christian Winter Metal Detecting Winter is here and with it you can expect some rain or snow. You and your favorite metal detector are anxious for the snow and the ice to melt to give way to sunlight and extraordinary weather that’s fit for your favorite pastime. But in most parts of the country there is still some time to wait. As a result you can still go metal detecting in the showers. Here are some tips about how you can do exactly that, and be effective in the process. When metal detecting in the rain your metal detector will need protection. You should also acquire a commercial meter rain-cover. This is to insure that your metal detector won’t get drenched from the rain. Now and again, however, the problem with commercial rain-covers is that they tend to get damp from inside, so it is tough to comprehend the meter. It is also an additional outlay, clearly. So if you do not desire to shell out money to obtain a commercial meter rain-cover you can opt to use traditional plastic grocery bags. It may not be as safe and will not allow the exact protection as a commercial rain-cover, but it’s satisfactory enough to let you go on with your metal detecting even in the shower. As greatly as you need protection from the rain for your metal detector, you also need protection from the cold wind and the rain showers yourself. Purchase a wetsuit which will keep you from getting drenched, helping you stay balmy and cozy. It is also standard to bring a raincoat other than your wetsuit, to maintain the nip from the cold from penetrating - especially when it is blustery. With regard to metal detector headphones, waterproof headphones are superior, but standard headphones work as sufficiently. The best thing about going on metal detecting trips in the rain is that ordinary metal detecting hot spots are by and large vacant during a rainstorm shower. You will have the entire space all to yourself, minus the curious tourists and other metal detecting enthusiasts. Also, because the earth is wet during the rain, the metal detector is capable to pick up on signals in deeper targets, permitting you to dig in deeper holes. So don’t let a little rain keep you from the chance to discover valuable finds with your metal detector, because metal detecting in the rain is totally possible, and can be really fun too! J C Christian is an avid follower of metal detectors and how they work. He runs an informational site that follows Garret Metal Detectors, Fisher Metal Detectors, Tesoro Metal Detectors, and Kellyco Metal Detectors just to name a few. Personal Loans: For All Your Financial Needs

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Joanne_Elizabeth]Joanne Elizabeth PERSONAL LOANS are basically taken by borrowers to fulfill all their financial needs. Personal loans can be taken to solve many purposes, whether to renovate your home, purchase a car, to consolidate debt burden, for a holiday trip, for childrens higher education etc. Personal loans can fulfill all your needs as well as demands. Personal loans can be classified as secured and unsecured loans. You may go for secured personal loans as well as unsecured personal loans depending upon the requirements. To obtain secured personal loans, you need to offer your property as collateral. Home owners have the privilege of getting secured loan because they can offer their home as security. Tenants can go for unsecured personal loans as no collateral is required. Home owners who do not want to take risk against their property can also go for such loans. Secured personal loans are easily available and very popular among borrowers. Reason for popularity is obvious as such loans are offered at low rate of interest, with flexible repayment facility, and easy monthly repayments, etc. Borrowers having bad credit record can also obtain personal loans. Bad credit record means, you are entrapped in situations like County Court Judgments, defaults in repayment, bankruptcy, etc. Bad credit secured personal loans can be obtained at competitive rate of interest. Unsecured personal loans can be obtained at slightly higher rate of interest than secured personal loans. But the loan approval is fast as less paper work is required. So, its time to apply for personal loans to fulfill all your needs as well as demands. Why Study the Flows of Civilization?

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Lance Winslow The reason to study the flows of civilization is out of the growing concern of the direction the United States is heading. Without a doubt the US of A is by far the greatest and most free country in the World. This is without doubt. However, as our study will show, it can be better and it is not good enough and often fails the people to enjoy their right of pursuit of happiness. We should therefore work hard to insure that the United States is not considered a footnote in World History, a thousand years from now as a great civilization of freedom, which imploded or completed its life cycle. Went up for 200 years and down for 200. There is no reason we cannot fix the flows, refine the system and give this greatest gift ever to the rest of the world. Every one wins. There is also no reason why it cannot work. Such a set of systems and methods, franchise so to speak, will unite the world and set us on course for another 200 years of prosperity. There is no reason that in 1000 years we cannot look back and say that in this period we launched the human race on a course that changed the world. There is no reason not to start today and complete this project and set the course within our lifetime. Therefore without a reason not to complete this project it would behoove this species to get busy and get it done. This in depth study will give 10 or more pages (chapters) to each of the flows listed above. Where we have done well, where we could improve and observations of the absurdity of political correctness. For us to fix the World, we in the US must lead by example, fix America and simultaneously admit our own mistakes and use that knowledge to fix the world. Our goal is to fix the World, but unfortunately there are so many barriers and restrictions to doing so or assisting in the process that we must first fix the flows first and then let the flows help us as we fix the world. You cannot fix the world or convince others to join your cause if they are hateful, starving, suffering, at war, caught up in religious fanaticism or un yielding in their current point profiting in the obstruction of flow. We will show that it is the best for all concerned when the world runs efficiently in all these flows. The power brokers and Powers to be, the companies, the people, our neighbors and the World all stand to do better if the flows are strengthened. This includes the environment, non-profit groups, middle class and the under privileged. Why do we care, why am I personally concerned about all this? Well it affects me in a very personal way as it does every single American and member of the Homo sapiens species. I hope you enjoy this study and matter of factly efforts to make these issues understandable to anyone. We are absolutely willing to discuss and/or debate with any competent individual with anything of importance to say on this important issue as long as they have the open mind to do so. Everything is related to everything else, everything affects everything else. Everything is connected to everything else. You are connected with me and we are all one. Therefore we ought to act in a manner that reflects these truths. Wouldnt that be a cool world to live in? Won’t you join us at the World Think Tank? “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Antique Delft and Very Collectible Tiles and Ceramics: Beginners Start Here

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Joy Pearson So you fancy starting a collection but you’re not sure what to collect? How About . . . ? Every home will contain at least one example or more - in the kitchen, the bathroom, the fire surround. How long have they been in existence and what should we look out for when buying an Old Tile. When trying to identify an old tile, the most difficult aspect is where was it made and when. The most famous tiles are referred to as delft. But why? The term delft is derived from the dutch town of Delft. The Netherlands began to produce tin-glazed earthenware in the late 15 century. Potteries were established in many parts of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, Haarlem and Rotterdam, but by the late 17 century Delft had become the most important centre of production and nearly 30 companies were working in the area. The original delft tile designs came about when Chinese porcelain stopped being imported in the mid 17 century and the popular Chinese wares were reproduced in blue and white. Initially made in blue and white, later in the century the Delft potters introduced a wider variety of colours, yellow, purple, blue, red, green and black. Flemish and Dutch potters arrived and settled in London in 1570, but it wasn’t until the 18 century that the delftware tile industry became established in Britian. The main centres were London, Bristol and Liverpool. The tiles usually depicted flowers, ships, landscapes and many scenes of biblical subjects. So now we know that we’re looking for either Duitch delft or English delft, but it’s quite dificult with these early examples to determine the place of origin. A few tips: Dutch delft often has a gritty texture, thick glaze and ‘peppering’ on the surface caused by air bubbles exploding during firing. Dutch tiles are painted in a very assured manner with great skill and expertise. The tin glaze of Dutch tiles is usually whiter because it contains more tin oxides making it liable to craze. British delftware is typically less finely potted and the glaze is often tinged with blue or pink. Colours tend to be more muted due to the absorbency of the tin glaze used. The glaze is much glossier and smoother than Dutch glaze and it does not craze easily. So to sum up: Gritty, thich white glaze, very well painted, crazed ……. Dutch. Smooth, glazed tinged blue or pink, muted colours, little crazing …. English. Now all you have to do is get out there and start looking, but beware - lots of reproductions so take time to do a bit more studying by way of delftware tiles. Also remember, plates, flower bricks, jugs, posset pots, handwarmers, puzzle jugs, char dishes, vases, bowls and beautifully glazed drug jars for use by apothocaries were produced in delftware, but that’s another story. We run a small but beautifully formed General Antiques Shop which is situated in Kirkby Lonsdale In the Yorkshire Dales/Cumbria Border. http://www.architus.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Joy_Pearson http://EzineArticles.com/?Antique-Delft-and-Very-Collectible-Tiles-and-Ceramics:-Beginners-Start-Here&id=46911 buy phentermine com phentermine without doctor prescription discount phentermine without prescription buy phentermine on line no prescription

Don’t Rush It or You’ll Lose the Job

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Nell Taliercio You’ve searched for months for the telecommuting job of your dreams. You’ve spent countless hours online hunting down a job. You’ve had the perfect resume crafted and brushed up on your interview skills. And all of the hard work and preparation has now paid off in the form of the perfect job! You scanned the job ad and found the contact information, pasted your cover letter and attached your resume. You pause before you push the send button and think “better make sure that I have everything they need”, but then that other voice tells you that you HAVE to get this to them ASAP before someone else beats you to the job…so you hit send. OH NO, you think, you realized that you misspelled the job title in the subject line of the email and you forgot they needed your phone number. But, now it’s too late! The email is in internet outer space.Has this ever happened to you? You’ve become so excited by a job that you’ve rushed through the very important application process? I’m sure we’ve all rushed through something because of our excitement, but in the case of applications you need to curb your excitement. Yes, you could beat others to the application process, but the applicants who followed all of the directions to a T and spellchecked the email will get the job over you.So when you’re looking over a job ad, along with the contact information, always jot down the important details mentioned. For example if they mention: Don’t attach resume or Do attach resume Put (job title) in the subject line Include phone number Thoughts from an employer While I anticipated that many under-qualified applications might arrive, I was surprised at the number of people who didn’t follow the basic instructions for replying to the ads. For example, I specifically asked that no email attachments be sent and I received quite a few people listing “attention to detail” as one of their skills, but with their resume attached. Once I hired someone, it’s been a fairly smooth process.Linda Stacy Final Thoughts The job applicant, who slows down, follows the direction precisely, and fixes spelling errors will be the one to land the job. So the next time your heart is racing over the “perfect job” make sure your brain and fingers SLOW DOWN so that you can pay attention to all the details and feel confident that you’ve included everything they asked for. Patenting and Protecting Plants in the United States

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

By Meerza Zaheer The United States is considered to be safe haven for the breeders and cultivators for the protection of the plants. USA is proud of being a provider for protection under both systems such Plant Patent System and Plant Variety Protection. Plant Patent Law is nurtured among small minority of countries in which the United States is the most notable among them. The United States has to be appreciated for their management of their Intellectual Property as it has inculcated a policy which promotes a situation where anything made by hand of man under the sun are eligible for patenting. Development of new varieties by traditional breeding is carried out by the two forms of protection through out the world. As the protection devices are primarily intended for the public welfare and the only the second priority goes to the inventor or author, as Congress envisaged, there is a little bit confusion arising as the public, in the case the farmers, are being affected their choice in the market. These developments occurred mainly due to some international conventions and with the advent of the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS) in the world trading system of the former GATT and the new World Trade Organization. Hence the focus of the brief discussion circles around the types of protection extended in the United States, the recent conventions and agreements like TRIPS and how it has effectively made an impact over the protection of plants in the United States and the aftermath consequences. Solid base for the protection Going back to the evolution of US patent, people of those time back in 1790 had generated an idea about the concept of patent and how it was put into use. There was an activating momentum in the field of plant commercialization with the backing of inspiring cultivation and with the planters transforming into the businessmen bent on introducing new plants reproducing them through cutting, grafting using other asexual methods which enable them sell them and make profits. When these breeders and cultivators using this opportunity made the patent office understanding their problems which resulted in Plant Patent Act of 1930. The breeders of trees (fruits-citrus and nuts), shrubs (azalea, viburnum etc.) and ornaments (such as blueberry, grape, raspberry and strawberry) were the main beneficiaries of the Act of 1930. Before the Act it was believed that even the artificial bred plants were produced of nature for the purpose of patent law were not subjects to patent protection. There was an exclusion of sexually produced plants as it was believed that seed reproduction would not make a way for new varieties of plants under the Act of 1930. The interesting thing to be in this Act was the plant patent law was not incorporated in the general patent law. While enacting the Plant Patent Act of 1930, the intention of Congress was to extend to plant breeder the relief he deserves and the economic reality behind providing the protection getting materialized. And later on realizing the large input of time, money and effort of the breeder or cultivator in the development of a new plant variety, either by traditional breeding methods or by modern molecular modification. With the entry of corporations in the field of breeding, it has become an inevitable from the marketing perspective of the economy to provide an adequate protection to them to come up with their technology in expediting the process by using winter breeding sites and genetic manipulation which might enable them to produce new varieties faster but at an unaffordable cost. The economic aspects are well considered and hence to recover the cost of research and development, the breeders are vested with exclusive marketing rights of the new variety. Thus the different types of protection such as plant patents, plant breeders rights (plant variety protection) and now utility patents are there which makes the plant protection enriched in the country comparatively. US Plant Patents At present the patent law of the United States is no more a separate statute and it is incorporated in the general patent law. Under this law the Title being 35, Chapter 15, Section 161 states: Whoever invents or discovers and asexually reproduces any distinct and new variety of plant, including cultivated sports, mutants, hybrids and newly found seedlings, other than a tuber propagated plant or a plant found in an uncultivated state, may obtain a patent therefore… Patents to plants which shall be stable and asexually reproducible and it shall not be any potato or other edible tuber reproducible plant. Asexual Reproduction: The purpose of the asexual reproduction is to establish the stability of the plant. It is the process of propagating of a plant to multiply without the aid of genetic seeds. Some of the methods if asexual reproduction is rooting cuttings, division, layering, tissue culture etc. Some 5000 plant patents have been granted (about 0.2% of all US patents) and the variety roses itself accounted for a major chunk. The demand for patent protection came in the first instance from the rose breeders as well fruit breeders. The important matter to be taken into account while the scope of the plant is considered in this statute, a US court specifically decided in 1940 that bacteria cannot be covered by means of plant patents. Although bacteria may be broadly classified within the plant kingdom and reproduce asexually the court held that the term must be given its ordinary meaning in the common language of the people. But the fungi are included. The Patent and Trade Mark Office is responsible for administration of plant patents. The application procedure is almost the same as other patent application except only a single claim is allowed. Specimen plants are not routinely required and a drawing, colored if necessary will be sufficient. The claim must be novel with distinguishing character of the new plant to be stated in more relative and less precise quantitative terms than in patent claims for other articles of other kinds. i.e seeking patent protection precisely over specific issue for eg: in case a plant is developed on the basis of a genetic mould and invented to be cure for some fatal deceases the protection must be sought on that prcised particular reason and not in general. The propagation of plants by special methods which are classified as general methods of manufacture as distinct from techniques directed producing an individual new variety is open to protection under the ordinary law of process patents. In general other plant cell culture methods which are operated for the purpose of producing secondary metabolites such as perfumes and flavors rather than the plants themselves involve the same patentability consideration as process invention of the usual kind. The same also can be said in relation to genetic manipulation of plants for this and related purpose, a strategy which falls clearly under the heading of microbiological process invention. The types of claim obtainable and useful to inventors in this connection will be touched upon when some of the special difficulties of patenting this kind of technology. All the elements of patentability along with elements of patentability along with the concept of enabling disclosures are also required for getting protection for plant. The plant patent is aimed at the plant itself rather than distributed among flowers, fruits, seeds or other products. US Plant Variety Rights Some breeders/companies estimate that it takes ten to fifteen years to develop a new variety. In order to expedite the process companies use winter breeding sites and genetic manipulation. Although these applications may produce new varieties faster, they also incur heavy costs. To recoup the cost of research and development, the breeder may be awarded with some exclusive marketing rights for the new variety. This is one of economic aspects behind giving the protection either in the form of patent or other kind of protection. In the case of protection of plant this right is known as plant breeders right-PBR (plant variety protection or PVP). Plant Variety Protection Act of 1970 is applicable only to plants propagated by seed. It provides protection for the breeder of any novel variety of sexually reproduced plant (other than bacteria, fungi or first generation hybrids) who has so reproduced the variety or his successor in interest, shall be entitled to plant variety protection. With the 1994 amendments, Congress strengthened PVPA protection by eliminating the sale provision from the crop exemption, extending the protection period from eighteen to twenty years, and providing for infringement suits against makers of essentially derived varieties. Congress made this provision to curb the practices of copying protected varieties .It has to be analyzed that the variety subject to be copied derives from the initial variety (FN). In the case of protection of plant variety rights, the application are dealt in a different manner. The Plant Variety Protection Office (PVPO) is responsible for administration of PVP Act being originated within Agricultural marketing device of the Department of Agriculture and they are authorized in issue of Certificate of Protection and not the USPTO. The procedure is little bit lengthy and complex The process of application, examination and issuance of certificate All the US citizens and residents and US Companies are eligible to apply for PVP. The plant varieties, for eligibility, shall be new, uniform, stable and distinct from all other varieties. The information in large has to furnished by the applicant to the PVPO. The application forms must carry certain information with regard to identification of ownership and the variety, its name, contact information along with family ascertainment such as botanical clarification (family, genus and species) in case a sale or disposal of the seed is carried out the report must be provided by applicant when and where variety was released to dispel the doubts whether the variety is new. The application must be aforesaid items with fees seed sample and exhibits showing the distinctiveness of the plant variety. The distinctness is checked after searching is carried out in the concerned appropriate databases. Commissioner verifies the findings of the examiner writes to the applicant to make the payment of the fees to issue the certificate and it is issued accordingly. Utility Patents for Plants The process of application and examination for obtaining utility patent is same as that of plant patent system. Newly developed plant breeds are patentable subject matter, under general utility patent statute (notwithstanding additional protections potentially available under Plant patent Act and plant Variety Protection Act). To obtain utility patent protection, plant breeder must show that plant it has developed is new, useful and non-obvious, and must provide written description of plant and deposit of seed that is publicly accessible. The reasons for excluding the bacteria may be the same reason justified during the enactment of 1930 patent law while exclusion of fungi is unknown where hybrids are excluded they have their own built in protection for their developer since he can control the in-bred or particular stocks and hybrid cannot be reproduced from the hybrid seeds. In the case of newly accepted varieties of hybrid and in-bred corn after the introduction of TRIPS suggestion, have become the patentable subject matter a Supreme Court laid down in J.E.M AG Supply. Inc v Pioneer Hi-bred International Inc (2002)even for obtaining Utility Patents. This case presents the question whether utility patents may be issued for plants under 35 U.S.C. section 101 or whether the Plant Variety Protection Act or the Plant Patent Act. The U.S. Supreme Court held that utility patents may be issued for newly developed sexually reproduced plant and plant seeds (FN). The Court denied the petitioners contention that the exclusive means of protecting sexually reproduced plant and plant seeds are found in the Plant Patent Act of 1930(PPA) and the Plant variety Protection Act (PVPA). It was held by the Supreme Court that newly developed breeds fall within the subject matter of section 101 and neither the PPA nor the PVPA limits the scope of section 101s coverage against the petitioners (J.E.M.AG Supply Inc)arguments that awarding utility patents for plants upset the scheme contemplated by Congress. Court is well aware of the broad language of the section 101 (the decision of Chakrabarthy case) concluding the living things are patentable under this section. Responding to the petitioners arguments is that the district courts (FN) and Federal Circuits(FN) decision went against the Congress intent, Court held that there is no specific language in the PPA demonstrating that Congress intended these statutes to be exclusive means of granting intellectual property protection to plants(FN). With regard to the PVPA, it was explained that because it was harder to qualify for a utility patent than for a Plant Variety Protection(PVP)Certificate, it only made sense that utility patents would confer a greater scope for protection and it was also noted that PVPA also did not include any statement that plant variety certificates were to be at the exclusive means of protecting sexually reproducing plants and that Congress when passed the PVPA, the PTO had already released a number of plant utility patents. Trade Secret Protection Trade secret protection is outside the federal statutes and is derived from state tort law. The basic commercial morality is emphasized by this mode of protection thus preventing misappropriation of somebodys valuable commercial trade secret. The indefinite period of protection, unlike other patent protections and plant variety protection, is the most fascinating one for the plant breeders. But the main element of trade secret like keeping secret incurs continuous strain, costly expenditures for taking precaution to maintain the secret which is subjected to no more secret with some act of reverse engineering of the invention from the part of the competitor or somebody else. Hence this sort of protection invites large amount of uncertainty and risks. In Pioneer Hi-Bred Intl Inc. v Holden Foundation Seeds and the Genetic Message from the Cornfields of lowa, there is a case involves misappropriating the genetic material in two of its hybrid parent corn seed lines and it was claimed by the Pioneer that those were their highly successful parent lines and the Holden used them to develop copies that were only slightly different. In considering the case the District Court said that this is a clear cut case of trade secret violation and the defendant is liable. On appeal, Eight Circuit affirmed the decision of the district court and it has made the plant breeders eligible to sue others for misappropriation of the secret genetic messages of varieties they create. As the Eight Circuit has noted that owner of the trade secret could not possess the absolute right over the property in the trade secret which might prevent the world from using that secret. While patent protection grants the patentee the right to exclude others from making, using, or selling his invention, trade secret law merely aims to protect against the misappropriation of a reasonably protected commercial secret. As the purpose of trade secret is limited to maintaining commercial morality and encouraging innovation, greater protection can not be expected from trade secret which is inevitable for protection of a plant. Purchase Contracts Another means of achieving intellectual property protection is through contract. Seed companies have also used language in purchase contracts to gain better protection than the PVPA can offer. It is a contract between the purchaser/farmer and a supplier seed company where the purchaser acknowledges and agrees that the production from the supplier will be used only for feed or processing and will not be used or sold for seed, breeding or any variety improvement purposes. Further there will be an undertaking that it would be a violation of this agreement to allow the subsequent production of the seed (sold) to be used to create a seed variety or seed product from said production which may be used for seed purposes by others other than the supplier company. Under this agreement the supplier can maximum purse breach of contract remedies if the contract is violated as aforesaid this protection under contract confer a stronger protection than PVPA and arguably better than that of utility patents too. Label Notices Label Notices provide another means of protection . TRIPS Agreement for Plant Protection Article 27(3)(b) states that members must provide patent or sui generis protection or a combination of the two. Article 27 is merely a restatement of existing intellectual property practice. Protection, whether in the form of patents or plant variety rights which accord with the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) the commonly accepted alternative to patent protection has been available for genetic material for many years. Article 27(3) seems to be a mandating protection, which should take or the extent to which TRIPS can control the scope of the right. In addition to the flexibility contained within the provisions relating specifically to patent law.. Article 27(3) is seen as providing two possible approaches by which member states are left with the option of choosing either of the two in accordance with the UPOV line is already being accepted by the US Until the landmark decision on In re Hibberd by a US Court in 1985 , agreements like TRIPS did not have significant relevance to farmers rights. Article 27(3) provides the important clause for the protection has become a cause for the concern so long as exemption provided to the farmers and breeders to use varieties protected under the Plant Varieties Protection Act have ceased to be active under the Utility Patents Act (TRIPS) UPOV line of protection The most common sui generis protection for plant varieties is provided and well defined by UPOV. It was recognized that the plant breeding industry was becoming economically very important. In order to ensure that the economic, as wellas, agricultural, potential of this new industry was realized it was felt that plant material should be protected by some form of intellectual property right. In US with the introduction of a protection of asexually reproducing plants took a turn in PVP Act of 1970 for protection for sexually reproducing plants to become available and with the introduction of TRIPS Agreement it has become possible to obtain even the utility patent over the plant material. Under UPOV 1978 farmers local varieties remain as open access because they rarely meet requirements of uniformity and stability. UPOV 1978 has a universal provision entitled farmers exemption, which allows any who buys a seeds of protected variety to save seeds from resulting crops for subsequent replanting without having to pay additional royalties to the original plant breeder. This had offended the Corporations and they have tried lobbying various governments to curb this practice of farmers exemption along with researchers exemption provided under UPOV-1978. The corporations intentions were carried out by the UPOV-1991 when it was revised. The revision in 1991 has reduced the farmers exemption into an optional one instead of mandatory (Art.15.2). It is left to the discretion of the Governments of each member state whether to provide this exemption to farmers or not. The plant breeders facility or exemption like marketing essentially derived varieties without the permission of the original plant breeder is limited which is a direct stimulant for reshaping the monopoly. The revised UPOV-91 has empowered the member states to grant utility patents for sexually reproduced plants which was not allowed in the previous UPOV-78. Conclusion The protection for the plant breeders and cultivators definitely gives more incentives to useful inventions and technological upheaval. But as constitution has empowered the Congress to carry out the mission, while giving protection to the inventors or breeders for their utilization of skills, knowledge , money, effort and other contributions towards some inventions, the primary concern shall be with the public interest. But with the implementation of world trade agreements like TRIPS and UPOV, this type of attitude is taking a U turn from the policy, enacted by the framers of the Constitution and the sacred intent of the Congress. It would be appropriate to think that farmers or other breeders shall go for some traditional way of cultivation, but it is a question whether they go for the primitive style of farming with a revival. It is technological era. The new type of cultivation evokes the requirement of the newly found seeds and methods with which the farmers and breeders can produce good quality products at the minimum cost.In case it is expensive, and not attracting customers it would be ideal for the farmers to confine to the traditional farming. But the scenario is changing. They have to dance to the tunes of changing phases. Hence the precautions have to be taken to save this agricultural sect from getting alienated from the society due to the excesses of some Corporations or big individual or group breeders. How To Use Common Sense To Help Alleviate Anxiety In Your Child

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Kitty Barker We all live in an extremely competitive and fast paced society; where we start on the education rollercoaster, move quickly on to our careers, to purchasing cars and our dream homes. Some people start a family before, in between or after all of these pursuits, but no matter what time in life you have children, no matter what challenges you are facing when the first one comes along, you must be prepared to spend quality time in caring for and developing a close and wonderful relationship with your child. It could be that you may feel some form of anxiety from performing the daily balancing act of juggling work, children, relationships and other commitments but in most cases, your children will be experiencing some form of anxiety too that you are unaware of. Whether your child is facing their first day at school, their first year 12 examination, or their first year of University, they may all be feeling some form of anxiety, and at these times, often the effort that their parents have put in into developing a close relationship with their child, really does pay off. A close relationship with your child lets them know they can come to you in times of trouble, that they can express what they are feeling to you more easily, and most of all it lets them know that you love them and are there for them despite how they are feeling, or what they are going through. Try and remember that your child would rather have a close relationship with you (their mother or father), than be driven around in the latest model car. The time you spend in chasing up car payments, is time lost with your child. The time you spend working for material ideals, could be better spent on developing your childs confidence and self-esteem and their confidence in you as their parent which is essential in helping them deal with anxiety. When your child develops a confidence in you, they will feel more comfortable in talking about their experiences at school with you, how they are feeling and what problems they are facing. However, if you don’t spend quality time with your child it’s very difficult for both the child and parent to develop a deep confidence and relationship with each other. All children need a strong relationship with their parents to receive the positive affirmation they need to grow confident in themselves and their abilities and there are no better role models than a childs parents to demonstrate perseverance through difficult times, or to provide them with the security they need in a structured home. Your child maybe feeling circumstantial anxiety, people these days are living in less stable family situations, and often children find reasons to blame themselves for their parents separation and divorce. All children should be reassured that the situation has nothing to do with them or their sister/brother that it is between mum and dad. It is important for parents to be interested in their children, to be aware of clues they may be trying to give you about how they are feeling. If they are moody, maybe something is wrong, maybe they are feeling anxious about something. When you are spending time with your children, remember to ask them how they are feeling today, and importantly, remember to tell them that you love them. Some ideas to help alleviate Anxiety in your Child: Buil a strong and loving bond with your child. Spend time each day with your children and create special family times that encourage communication between you and your children such as playing board games, family sports and cooking instead of playing computer games. These activities improve your childs self-confidence, and their problem solving abilities. Spend time on your childs other talents, let them discover and develop a broad range of skills, and find what they are interested in. Too much pressure on one particular area such as, sports or maths can cause anxiety in your child. Coach your child on how to deal with bullying and peer pressure at school, be open and share your own experiences, explain to them who they can go to for help at school, and let them know that they can be open with you. When your child is facing exam week at school, it is important for you to try and understand how they are feeling, encourage a healthy and positive approach to studying and exam preparation, and if necessary to reduce the amount of chores they have to complete during that time. Also, introduce breaks and relaxation activities such as walking and swimming. Frequently involve extended family and friends in social activities together, this acts as a support group for your children and increases their self-confidence. Important: Often peer pressure that can cause anxiety in children does not only occur in the school grounds, it can also be displayed through the media, so be careful about what your children are watching on television, the magazines they are reading and what music they are listening to. Reward your childs achievements, completion of their homework, reward perseverance, and reward your child for trying their best no matter what the outcome. Importantly, use your gut instinct, if you feel there is something wrong, ask your child how they are feeling, and try to encourage them. If your child is experiencing anxiety often, it is a good idea to take them to see a counsellor or you yourself can see a counsellor to begin with, to learn some tools on how to alleviate anxiety in your child. Packaged For Success - Parenting Expert Weighs In On Student Stress & Mental Health

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Maria Pascucci Campus Calm had the opportunity to talk with Carleton Kendrick, Ed.M., LCSW, about why students are increasingly becoming more packaged for success and the price they’re paying in the process. Kendrick, author of “Take Out Your Nose Ring, Honey, We’re Going to Grandma’s” (Unlimited Publishing LLC), is a licensed psychotherapist, noted national speaker, social commentator and author. Campus Calm: Our first question stems from your article, “High Achievers: What Price Are They Paying? A Harvard Interviewer’s Honest Assessment” that was published on FamilyEducation.com. Why do you think high school and college students today are increasingly becoming more packaged for success? Kendrick: Because there are many parents who are frightened, guilt-ridden and anxious about whether or not they can guarantee that their kids will get into the “best” colleges and have “a wonderful life.” I think that much of the hyper-parenting that produces this pressure cooker on children is more due to guilt than anything. It’s a result of parents feeling they are not spending enough time with their children and not really being “good enough” parents. So if you can’t have fully realized, loving intimate relationships with your children you may be able to compensate by treating them, well-intentionally, but never-the-less like a commodity, which will eventually be “bought” by a college. You can do that by micromanaging their life from preschool on. That includes telling them what courses to take, compelling them to excel in one sport, perhaps even in one position. Some kids are sent to summer camps at very young ages to specifically learn skills that have to do with one specific position for a sport, as opposed to kids playing. There’s no time to play now because you have to go about the business of assembling your success portfolio. Some parents are obsessed with this. Campus Calm: Is this spread out across all social classes? Kendrick: In my research and in my professional experience, this is an obsession that is certainly more dominant in the “moneyed” classes, although the contagion does spread up and down all the classes. Scholarships withstanding, it’s typically only the moneyed that can pay for the elite schools and camps. Money is a factor and buying into the notion that the right college will confer a great life. Of course, that totally delusional belief is sometimes as embraced by folks who are not moneyed and not in a higher educational status. Campus Calm: What’s the harm in packaging kids for success? Kendrick: Well, I think when you are handled like a detergent, being created, packaged and sold by an ad company, it’s dehumanizing at the core. It is an orchestrated attempt to author who someone naturally is. It communicates to children, “You’re not OK as you present. You need something or someone to guss you up.” I think it’s unnatural and ultimately dehumanizing to take children and basically tell them that they’re not good enough as they stand. Campus Calm: If some parents have hovered over their children for years and they now realize that it was a mistake, how could they go about changing their relationship with their teens? When their kids are used to having their lives scheduled and mapped out, can they just easily switch over to being more independent? Kendrick: These parents have usually greatly disabled their kids, encouraging an unhealthy dependence and reliance on them for directing most aspects of their kids’ lives. That said, many, if not most of my teen patients, as well as teens I talk to in my seminars, would welcome their parents backing off of micromanaging their lives. I would recommend that parents have a series of discussions with their teens in which they acknowledge their mistakes as hovering, micromanaging, anxious parents and the harm this suffocating parenting has caused their kids. I would then have parents tell kids that their role will be supportive, encouraging and directed at cultivating their teens resourcefulness, independence and resilience. Parents will go through some forms of emotional withdrawal from their former roles as hovering managers of their kids’ lives and teens need to understand that this transition will probably be more difficult for their parents than it will be for them. Campus Calm: How can students begin to look at an education as an end in itself and not simply a means to get a high paying job with all the status and presumed happiness that goes along with it? Kendrick: It’s very hard for students when so many people are telling them, “This is the road to success.” You go to this school or a school like this. Then you may be told you need to go to grad school. You also need to do summer work that shows the schools that you’re applying to that you are very serious, whether you are or not. This is the equation; this is the formula. You just plug yourself into this and you are guaranteed that your life will be rosy. Somewhere along the line, we miss teaching kids that it’s in the process; it’s in the challenge and the hard work to learn something. The best experience my daughter had in school was working so hard to get a B- in Physics when she got A’s in basically everything else. She was more proud of that B- because Physics was something she didn’t take to that easily. The other things came easy to her, meaning she wasn’t necessarily challenged by them intellectually. Now somebody may have looked at her report card and said, “Hey, what happened here with that B-?” Campus Calm: Each student excels in one area and struggles in another. How can parents & educators encourage them to define and enhance their unique skills while never labeling them “lazy” or “dumb” in the areas that they may struggle with? Kendrick: There has to be a paradigm shift here and the paradigm shift has to be early on with parents and educators - and anyone who encounters the child. I have seen enough kids to know that children show you who they are very early and if you’re not paying attention to who they really are - meaning their curiosities and the natural rhythms of their life - and instead you have your blueprint for them and you basically ignore the natural life of the mind of the child, then you’re trying to pull the hardwiring out of your child. The paradigm shift must be on the emphasis on further encouraging and emphasizing the child’s natural abilities and interests and skills set that they show you early on. That is not to say you neglect what they might have trouble with. You recognize their “deficits” but you don’t make them the focus. Nobody does well at everything. Campus Calm: A teacher recently wrote to tell me that she sees students more stressed out about grades than ever before. A few of her students started crying when they received a “B” on a test because they were afraid to go home and face their parents. How has this happened and what can we do about it? Kendrick: We need to change how we raise our kids to view the word success. Most people would argue that Mother Theresa was successful. Now if you check out Mother Theresa’s academic background you will not see Mother Theresa blowing any academic institutions off the charts. Would we consider that she gave a lot to the world? Would we consider that musicians and artists that we revere who never made it out of high school gave a lot to the world? “Wait,” say many adults, “don’t encourage children to think that they don’t have to go to school.” That’s not the point. It is that we all have some inherent abilities and encouraging them and perhaps showing children how they can manifest those abilities and marry them with some sense of purpose and mission that’s gratifying to them, not their parents and larger society. Campus Calm: The only way to reach success in life is to make mistakes and learn to deal with the occasional failure. Do you think our education system encourages students to learn how to handle this notion? If not, how can schools work to help kids take chances and appreciate mistakes as part of the process? Kendrick: We need to let children know that challenges do not always equate with an honors grade. It takes bravery and courage and being vulnerable. We need to teach kids to be open to “failure.” If you’re only applauded for your honors grades, or for the school’s you get into or for the money you make doesn’t that put an awful lot of pressure on what happens when you don’t? Campus Calm: I want to change topics for a moment and talk about perfectionism and how it contributes to both male and female students developing unhealthy body images. Campus Calm believes that self-love is a driving force behind success in life. How can young people develop healthy relationships with their bodies and their selves despite our culture’s preoccupation with outward perfection? Kendrick: How does a young person who’s seeking to be appreciated, liked and wanted - how do you tell them not to buy into the magazine covers and the music videos and that culture of perfection? It’s pointing out again that there’s something wrong with you. You’re average academically and now you’re not thin enough or your breasts aren’t large enough or your hair isn’t straight enough. Or to a young boy, because I’ve seen so many young boys take steroids: “You’re not tough and strong enough.” I don’t have any magic answers on how kids cannot be seduced to hate and detest and loathe their bodies. All I can say is when you can make friends and make relationships that have nothing to do with how popular you are perceived socially, how much of a hero you are athletically, or how much of an academic star you are, hold them close because they are then appreciating you. Whether you put on 30 pounds, whether you get your teeth capped or not, whether your dad drives the newest car. Especially in the area of adolescence, it’s our friends more than anybody who helps determine our sense of self. If you can find in your travels someone who really appreciates you for who you are and for what you actually want to be known as, know that this is the essence of meaningful relationships despite the seduction of perfection. Look for those relationships with friends, as they will help you define yourself around those things you don’t have to fine tune. How To Choose A Lawnmower

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Andrew Caxton There are many models of lawn mowers in the market. It is possible to get overwhelmed by the variety. Right from the hand operated walk behinds, to the cordless, to the robo-mower, many varieties are available in electric mowers. Similar varieties are also available in gasoline engine operated mowers too. When you are in market to purchase a lawn mower, it is possible to get overwhelmed and even bewildered. We will set you on a great course so that intelligent persons like you will be able to make an informed choice. TheAcreages You Mow Is First Step In Selection The acreages that you mow are the first important criterion in selections. If you mow less than one acre, you might select a hand-operated one. It would be sufficient for your kind of work. You will have a neat and trim lawn and a neat lawn (and fit & trim you as a bonus). When you have the acres and acres of lawn, this choice has to be tossed out as unviable. The battery operated ones and hand operated ones have the advantage of low price, and low floor space. With battery operated ones, you have to be meticulous in charging the batteries as they do not hold a large charge and charging also take lot of time in getting charged. Electric Or Gas Powered Review Your Requirement First If you are a type who cares much about the environment (ideally you should be), you would select an electric one thinking that you are doing your best for your environment. Nevertheless, if you think a step further you might realize that the amount of pollution you create in the local level might decrease but the overall pollution over the whole country will remain the same, as the pollution at the national level will depend on the energy consumed and the carbon credit that you create. So while you are right in assuming that you create low pollution by choosing an electric lawn mower, it is only on local level. Reducing the energy consumption and increasing the green coverage around you might be more beneficial in reducing pollution than just choosing the electric lawn mower. So choose carefully. The electric ones have another disadvantage that you have to feed them with electric power all over the place. This might become another concern in safety of those around you. Fueling the gasoline engine could become messy. Unless you have the gas station near you house and you can ride the lawn mower, you have to feed it manually. The Modern Solution - Robotic Lawn Mowers For large acreages, you might select the robotic lawn mowers. These are convenient, safe silent and complete automatic in operation. You only have to arrange for power supply. Getting electric supply at all points is not difficult if you plan it carefully. Safety features of the robotic mowers will amaze you. The robotic mowers (or robo-mowers as they are called) can operate in completely safe mode caring for safety of its own and those around you. If a child strays into its path, it will choose a different path. In addition, if it turns turtle it will stop rotating its blades. The safety features and absence of human care or intervention required make it an ideal choice for large tracts of land like a golf course or miles and miles of greens that you have. Therefore, you can easily see that choosing a lawn mower is not that difficult, as you have thought earlier. Andrew Caxton is a consultant who writes on many consumer topics like the above article at http://www.lawn-mowers-and-garden-tractors.com He provides tips and advice about small lawn tractors as well as on the electric and robotic mowers.
